VL: Proj.02: Rhetorical Tropes

Allegory/Irony/Synecdoche - Andy Warhol, a pioneer of the pop art movement, drowns in a cambell's soup can - a subject of his art, signifying the collapse of the American avant-garde movement.

Personification - America's assassinated leaders assembled together in the national cemetery, signifying the death of American idealism.

Simile - boxers physical attributes are paralleled with mechanical equipment.

Synecdoche - Young man represents America's reaction to Jack Ruby's slaying of Lee Harvey Oswald.

Metaphor - Hubert Humphrey substituted with a puppet to illustrate the sycophantic facade of his endorsement for LBJ's war escalations.

Parody/Hyperbole - imitation of cosmetic advertisement that promises instant beautification. hyperbolized effect of a cosmetic products.

Parody/Personification - child's extended arm evokes the statue of liberty - itself a manifest embodiment of American liberties.

Irony/Metaphor - Institution of Cinema substitutes the Institution of Christianity.

Hyperbole - purchasing a 25 cent stocking is equated with purchasing a new leg.

Anthropomorphism/Personification/Pun - The Naugahyde synthetic vinyl is fashioned into the Nauga - a fictional creature with human-like characteristics that represents te Naugahyde (Nauga hide) Brand.
